How does the medicine work in the body? Well, it is a matter of understanding how it works. That is why when we hear the term “holistic” we think of it as a way to get all information about how the body works, why certain types of medication are affecting the body, and why some types of medicine are more effective than others. So how does the medicine work in the body? In short, it affects the body through medications and different types of treatments that help the body recover and function normally.

We can talk about the effects of medicine on the body in terms of the three main branches of medicine – internal medicine, external medicine, and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Internal medicine encompasses all the types of treatment that are aimed at helping the individual to maintain their health condition. An example of internal medicine is treating an infection or the consumption of medicine that is to relieve disease. External medicine is treatment aimed at treating illnesses, injuries or preventing the body from getting sick. CAM includes such things as chiropractic, physiotherapy, counseling, acupuncture, Ayurveda, homeopathy, herbalism, naturopathy, and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS).
